Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden
Federal Way, Washington
This
garden was established in Federal Way, on property leased
from the Weyerhaeuser Company, in 1975 and opened to the
public in 1980. It is a 22 acre display garden devoted
almost entirely to Rhododendrons, with companion plants
added to improve the aesthetic appeal.
The Rhododendrons are planted in beds based on taxonomy
rather than geography, so species closely related to one
another are planted together regardless of where they occur
naturally. This is probably a really interesting
arrangement for Rhododendron fanatics, but I’d find a
geographic arrangement more interesting and informative.
