This
12-acre garden began as the City Park Rose Garden, a
project of the WPA (Works Progress Administration). In the
early 1980’s it became the New Orleans Botanical Garden. In
August 2005 the garden was badly damaged by Hurricane
Katrina and forced to close for 6 months. It reopened in
March 2006.
