This garden was established in 1983 at the former estate of Mr. and Mrs. Lammot du Pont Copeland. It is now a 650 acre horticultural center devoted to the study of the flora of the Appalachian Piedmont region. The Piedmont is a region of low rolling hills between the Atlantic Coastal Plain and the Appalachian Mountains, stretching from New Jersey to Alabama. The area has a very rich flora with more than 3,000 identified species.
