Lakewold Gardens
Lakewood,
Washington
This 10 acre estate garden
opened to the public in 1989. Development of the house and
gardens began around 1910 and over the years world-renowned
landscape architects worked on portions of it. The Olmsted
Brothers designed the fence, gate and brick walk around
1915. Thomas Church designed new garden elements in the
1950’s including a knot garden planted with herbs, the
Quatrefoil Pool and the Lookout.
The garden is divided into several areas including an fern
garden, a shade garden, a woodland garden, a rock garden
and a rose garden. The garden also features a collection of
Rhododendrons.
