This 17-acre estate was left
as a public trust following the deaths of founders Hugo and
Margaret Dixon. It opened to the public in 1976. The
gardens were designed by Hope Crutchfield, a landscape
designer from Vermont who was also Hugo’s sister. She
designed the gardens to evoke an English park.
