Airlie Gardens
Wilmington,
North Carolina
This
67-acre property became a public garden in 1999 when it was
acquired by New Hanover County. For years before, the
owners would open their garden to the public to show off
the spring bloom of azaleas. Azaleas are still a major
collection at Airlie, along with camellias and spring
bulbs. Highlights include a butterfly garden, a sculpture
garden, and a 460 year old live oak.
